Symptoms of a Vaishnava

tava kathamritam tapta-jivanam kavibhir iditam kalmasapaham

My Lord, the nectar of Your words and the descriptions of Your activities are the life and soul of those suffering in this material world. These narrations, transmitted by learned sages, eradicate one's sinful reactions and bestow good fortune upon whoever hears them. These narrations are broadcast all over the world and are filled with spiritual power. Those who spread the message of Godhead are certainly the most munificent welfare workers.

So a Vaishnava is very attached to hearing and chanting the glories of Krishna. He is compassionate. He is simple. He is humble. He is munificent. He is honest. He is pure. He is liberated. He is intelligent. He is tolerant. He is loved by all. He sees all equally. Most important - he is surrendered to Krishna. And that one thing makes him everything else that he is. Without surrender to Krishna - one cannot develop even one good quality. So one must always hear and chant the glories of Krishna, and try to surrender in the right mood to him, to become his devotee.

Before this complete surrender - one cannot be called a devotee.
